BIO GARY HAIRSTON

Personal:

Gary M. Hairston is a native of Portsmouth, Ohio where he was born on November 6, 1952.  He is the oldest of seven children (three boys and four girls), born to Edward “Bud” (deceased) and Hortense Hairston.  Gary’s Brother Russell E. Hairston, is a Sublime Prince of King Solomon Consistory No.20, Valley of Cincinnati, Orient of Ohio.

Gary was educated in the Portsmouth Public Schoolsystem, graduating from Portsmouth High School in 1971. He attended Shawnee State University in Portsmouth where he received his Associate of Applied Business Degree and his Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Social Science. 

Gary retired in December 2014 with 41 years of experience in progressively responsible management level positions, primarily in the Human Resources and Security professions at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Nuclear Plant. Gary has been married for 40 years to the love of his life, Marilyn (Bowen) Hairston, an Administrative Assistant professional (also a retiree from the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Nuclear Plant). Their union produced two children, a Son, Gary “Michael” Hairston Jr. (deceased), and a Daughter, Tia Marie Hairston-King (graduate of The Ohio State University - MSN, Family Nurse Practitioner). Gary and Marilyn are very active members of Christ’s Community Church in Portsmouth.

 A member of Trinity Lodge No.9, where he was raised to the sublimed degree of a Master Mason in 1981. Gary has served as Worshipful Master of Trinity #9 during the years 1989 – 91 and 2005 – 2007. He is the current Treasurer of Trinity #9. Gary was elevated to the degree of a 32⁰ Sublime Prince of L.D. Easton Consistory No. 21, Valley of Columbus, Orient of Ohio, in 1994.  He was elevated to Grand Inspector General of the 33⁰ (Brian L. Abrams, Sr. Class) on May 2009 in Rochester,  New York. Gary is a member in good standing of The Ohio Commanders of the Rite Valley of Columbus, Ohio. Gary was voted Administrative Officer of the Year for the masonic calendar year 2012-2013.
